All About Alex at 2 months

Well, time sure flies! Alex is 2 months old now. Well, 2 months and 5 days. I thought it would be fun to tell blog readers about our little Alex.

*He sticks his tongue out a lot.
*For no apparent reason that we can see, he will often shake one leg like a dog.
*His lower lip will tremble like he is shivering but he is not cold. And when he cries. I mean REALLY cries.
*When he sleeps, his arms are either above his head or straight out at the sides.
*His hands are often in fists. His thumb will be tucked under the middle, ring and pinkie fingers, and his index finger will be tucked in on top of the thumb. It’s almost like he’s trying to make a T.

*He often has one hand curled up in a fist and the other open with the fingers in what looks like some sort of gang sign.
*If he is startled while sleeping, his arms will jerk up and then slowly settle back down.
*He looks to his left a lot.
*When laying down on a flat surface (the floor, a bed, his crib), he will often have one arm stretched out straight and the other bent across his chest. We call this the “karate position”.
*After being fed and burped, when he is being cradled and going to sleep, when he is relaxed, if he has a pacifier in his mouth, his mouth will slowly open and the pacifier will fall out. He often smiles as if he’s having a particularly good dream. Sometimes he even appears to laugh!
*He spits up when burped. A lot comes out. It looks like curdled milk or cottage cheese a lot of the time.
*He isn’t particularly fond of a pacifier.
*He has the cutest baby sneezes. He doesn’t just sneeze once—he sneezes 3 times in a row. Sometimes two, sometimes four but almost never just once. Just like his daddy!
*Around the middle of November, he started smiling in response to us smiling at him.
*He’s strong! He was holding his head up quite well even as a newborn and he often holds his legs out stiff.
*When he cries, he gets quite stiff and we can “stand” him up!
*His “comfort position” is holding him upright against the shoulder—as if we’re burping him—with a hand on the back of his head. He likes to arch backwards! I often press my lips to his cheek as if I’m kissing him.
*He farts with the best of them!
*He has been quite healthy! No colds, ear infections or anything else that we know of. The only health “concern” was thrush in his mouth. Oh, and thrush.
*If he is trying to go to sleep but can’t because he’s uncomfortable due to gas, once he burps or farts, he is asleep in ten seconds!
*Sometimes when we are giving him his pacifier, when he feels the pacifier touch his mouth, he will “wag” his head back and forth vigorously until we push it into his mouth.
*He has a strong suck. Nursing only takes about 10 to 15 minutes for both breasts.
*He makes the cutest facial expressions when he is sleeping.
*He has a cute pout!
*When he is REALLY upset, if he is not being held, he will wave both arms and kick one leg. If he is being held upright against the shoulder, he will sometimes shake his head sadly.
*Even if he is being held upright, if he is very upset, he will move one leg up and down.

Alex had his 2 month appointment today. He is 23 inches long and weighs 11 lbs.
