[ school's nearly out! ]
Just 2.5 more days and school is out! We're all ready for the school year to be over--to have a more relaxed schedule, to spend more time together, to have fun, to not worry about homework! That doesn't mean we're going to sit around all day watching TV or doing nothing--I have plenty of plans--but it just means we're not going to be quite so aware of the time!
Wednesday is Field Day--remember those? We'd have a day at the end of the school year when we'd spend the day outside playing games! I'm planning to go over and take pictures so I'll post those later.
[ baby ]
We got some unexpected news at the last doctor appointment. My previous post indicated that the placenta was partially covering the cervix and my doctor felt sure it would move as time went on. Well, that opinion was based on the ultrasound from the ER visit that was done by the radiologist. I had an ultrasound with Maternal Fetal Medicine on May 16th and the people who work in that department are specially trained to focus on pregnancies. Well, the perinatologist (I *think* that's what they're called--the radiologist specially trained for pregnancy ultrasounds) discovered that the placenta is actually completely covering the cervix. So Dr. L. warned us that while there was a chance the placenta could still move out of the way, chances were likely that our baby would be born via C-section. Not only that--but due to the higher risks of going into labor with complete placenta previa, starting around 36 weeks they will monitor the baby's lungs and as soon as baby is ready, they will schedule me for the surgery. So, unless things change, looks like we're going to have our baby in September instead of October. I am doing well, the baby is doing well, and my doctor has not put me on any physical restrictions so life is pretty much going on as usual. I am still being careful in my daily activities and I will be seeing my doctor every 3 weeks and having an ultrasound each month, so please don't worry! We are following medical advice!
[ memorial day ]
We went up to Logan on Saturday to check on the house. Everything's fine there. On that day, the grass was looking pretty shaggy! We attempted to start the lawnmower but the machine must not like anyone except Dad cuz it wouldn't start for us! We also stopped by the Hyrum cemetery to visit Grandma and Grandpa Allen's graves. Someone (I assume Aunt Carol) had already been there and put flowers on the graves. We also visited Daniel's grave (hard not to since it's right next to G&G!) and the Allen great-grandparents (Georgia, Vesta and AD). Christie was particularly fascinated with the family history as she had been learning about oral histories. Her last project for the year was to present a story from the family history. She wanted to do one about Grandma Allen (Karen) so I told her the story of the first time she (Grandma) met Great Grandma and Grandpa Allen and brought the cake with the frozen strawberries. (See the blue book we did for the 2005 family reunion for the story). I realized that I have PLENTY of stories about my father and his family but not too many about my mother! Mom, when you get back home, you need to write down stories!
Sunday we had church as usual with our new bishopric.
Monday we got together with Steven's parents and his sister Bonnie and her family. We had planned to have a BBQ and go to the park that's just a block away---but we had downpours all day! So we ended up cooking on the grill outside but eating inside! It was still a fun day.
[ other tidbits ]
We're still enjoying some nice late spring weather. Yesterday (Sunday) was warm enough that we turned on the AC for the first time this year for awhile. Later on it cooled off enough that we turned it off and opened the windows. It's now 2 pm on Monday and the house is still quite pleasantly cool with the windows still open and the fans going.
Steven's parents have been upgrading their kitchen. It looks terrific--granite countertops, undermount metal sink, new door pulls that match the sink and new faucets. They also bought new bar stools to match the new decor so they gave us their old ones. So we now have two swivel bar stools at our kitchen bar! C&J love eating breakfast there.
Mom and Dad, hope your flight to Namibia was uneventful and you're getting settled. We look forward to hearing about your new adventures there!
