Happy Birthday, Mom!
I hope you’ve had a great day—I’m sure you’ve been busy with the usual missionary work but I hope you did get to do something fun!
Some fun random bits, pieces and memories of Mom: (It’ll be interesting to see who else thinks/remembers the same things!)
Mom loves chocolate! When Winchell’s Donuts was around, she ALWAYS got the same thing--chocolate bars! When we got ice cream, it was ALWAYS the same thing--almond fudge ice cream. If you want to get her a treat, get chocolate covered raisins or chocolate covered orange sticks. (Wish I could send you some!)
Mom finds a reason to celebrate anything. First day of school, last day of school, last day of school before Christmas/spring/summer break, a good score on a test, etc.! Where did we celebrate? McDonalds!
Mom’s favorite drink—a supersize Coke from McDonalds!
Mom celebrates holidays in a big way! She goes all out for Christmas and there’s always something of the holiday/season in the front entry, living room and kitchen. When we celebrate birthdays, the presents are wrapped and displayed on the living room fireplace hearth for a week before.
The best place to have a heart to heart conversation with Mom is in the car (with McDonald’s food).
Mom does not like to get her ears wet. So when we go swimming, she’ll wade but not get all the way wet.
Mom feels the Spirit strongly. It doesn’t take much to get her crying in church!
Mom is a wonderful Grandma. She spoils her grandchildren the same way HER mom did—buying all the cool treats that the parents don’t!
So many times we’ve talked about what I can do as a mom to help my own children do well in school or become well rounded. That educational advice has come in handy many times!
Mom is a wonderful example. She drove down to Ogden twice a week for several years to help take care of her parents (before they moved to the nursing home in Logan). She did the same for Grandma and Grandpa Allen (although the drive was to Hyrum/Providence/Brigham City, not Ogden). She fulfills whatever calling she is given to the best of her ability. She is a great model of how to be a good mom.
I love you, Mom!
